So it ‘s gonna be a mushy gushy post. You’ve been warned. 🙂
The MLK holiday means more to me than a day off from school/work. As a young black woman, in a ltr with a white guy, I am super appreciative for all the freedom fighters and those who fought for equality. I can’t even imagine a world without my guy in it, or where it would be illegal for us to hold hands/marry/have kids. I can’t imagine a world where I’d have to drink from a separate fountain. I can’t imagine a world where me becoming a fulltime writer would be a long shot, or I’d be severely limited in the scope of my audience because of my race.
And now, because of people like MLK, I don’t have to imagine. We still have a ways to go, but we’ve come so far because of their blood, sweat, and tears.
Happy MLK Day, yall.
