Are you there NBC? It’s me, Violet.

So I’ve kinda given you guys a taste of my love of television.  Unless you’re into indie fare, I really think the quality, talent, and innovative-ness in the current offerings days of late trumps what we can find in multiplexes.  Also! I’ m really into period/historical pieces a la The Tudors, Mad Men etc.

When I heard about the new line up and Pan Am/The Playboy Club, I TOTALLY got what they were doing.  Mad Men is definitely the big dawg on campus, all sleek and shiny and snatching up viewer and critical acclaim.  I thought Pan Am was a clusterfuck of randomness and a bit of a snooze…but The Playboy Club had promise.

The Playboy Club centers around a host of bunnies at the original Playboy Club in the 60’s.  The main cutesy wootsy blonde bunny kills some important mob dude and the Don Draper-like guy helps her cover it up and unfortunately, that’s kind of the focus of the show.  BUT!  There’s also nuggets of awesome that I was really looking forward to delving/learning more about.  There’s a black bunny!  And they actually address the black experience and how she has hopes and aspirations but society is holding her back.  That’s the main gripe I have with Mad Men…I love the show, but goddamn if it isn’t whitewashed.  The parts where Carla and the elevator operator are on screen are so poignant…and few and far between.

But back to the Playboy Club.  One of the bunnies is in a fake marriage and is secretly a lesbian and her husband is gay.  I just want them to have their own show.  Someone make that happen, because I thought it was super interesting and Will and Grace-y but with more brains, if that makes sense.

But alas, apparently no one watched the Playboy Club and 3 episodes in, NBC is already pulling the goddamn plug.  I could go on a rant about how shoes like 2 and 1/2 men are on their gazillionth season and good shows like Firefly and Insertqualityprogrammingthatgottheboot, but I won’t.  I just want to express my sad face because I was really looking forward to a show that delved into the turbulent 60’s and showed a little more of what it was like for people that weren’t white and privileged.

Le sigh.

But it’s Monday!  And Sons of Anarchy is still on the air tomorrow though I’ve been kinda disappointed in this season, but that’s another post for another day. 🙂

On the writing front, I’m working on a Halloween competition over at and that’s pretty fun.  The title of my entry is “Laced Up” and here’s a tentative description:

Every Halloween, Violet XXX Productions puts out a movie that wins critical acclaim in the adult entertainment biz and swipes the high honors at the AVN awards.  This year’s selection is titled “Laced Up” and the pressure is on–especially for new performer Rebecca Stone.  She has big dreams to take the entertainment world by storm, and believes that the starring role in “Laced Up” is just the ticket she needs.

But when the performers of  Violet XXX pack up for a weekend tryout fuckfest in the mountains and someone starts offing the contenders one by one, Rebecca must find out who the murderer is…or she may be next.

I’m trying to go for a Michael Myers/serial killer/Scream-y type of vibe.  We’ll see how it goes.

Hope you guys had a fantabulous weekend!
